RUUD DE VRIES JAZZ QUARTET - STRAIGHT AHEAD JAZZ
Naast de Ruud de Vries Band speel ik tevens met een akoestisch jazz quartet, in de traditionele jazzbezetting sax, gitaar (of piano), bas, drums. Dit quartet speelt o.a. iedere 1e zondag van de maand in Amsterdam's populairste jazzcafe 'Alto' en regelmatig in het bekende muziekcafe 'Ruimzicht' in Leimuiderbrug.
Next to the Ruud de Vries Band I also perform with an acoustical jazz quartet, in the traditional jazz line-up of sax, guitar (or piano), bass, drums. This quartet plays every first sunday of the month in Amsterdam's most popular jazz cafe 'Alto' and also on a regular basis in music cafe 'Ruimzicht', a.k.a. 'Red Kees' in Leimuiderbrug.

SWANG THANG - SWING, BEBOP & RHYTHM & BLUES
Collega-tenorsaxofonist Olaf Hoeks en ik leiden behoorlijk verschillende saxofoonlevens. Daar waar Olaf Hoeks zijn naam heeft gevestigd als pure swing- en beboptenorist, ben ik in meerdere muzikale richtingen actief, tot en met de wereld van DJ's. Toch hebben wij iets zeer gemeenschappelijks: de liefde voor het grote, intense saxofoongeluid zoals de legendes uit de jaren '40 en ’50 van de vorige eeuw het voortbrachten.
In 2017 besloten we samen een band te beginnen en serieus werk te maken van traditionele tenorsax swing, bebop en rhythm & blues. Komend najaar komt ons eerste album uit. Lees verder over deze band op de Swang Thang website (nog niet online).
Fellow-tenor saxophonist Olaf Hoeks and I lead quite different saxophone lives. Olaf Hoeks made a name for himself as a pure swing- and bebop tenorist, and I am active in different musical directions, including the world of DJ's. However, we have something very much in common: the passion for the big fat saxophone sounds of the legends from the fourties and fiftiesen of the former century.
In 2017 we started a band together, playing traditional tenorsax swing, bebop en rhythm & blues. At the end of this year we will release our first album. Read more about this band on the Swang Thang website (not online yet). |
